Dr. Poornima is having 10+Years of multidisciplinary research experience in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, IPR and policy. As a registered Indian Patent Agent and Indian Trademarks Agent, Dr. Poornima has prolific experience in patent application drafting, filing and prosecution.

Prior to joining MNLU Nagpur, as DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor on February 2nd, 2026, Dr. Poornima has worked extensively in the corporate field including pharmaceutical companies and start- ups. She has a holistic overview of both academic and non-academic backgrounds. Her doctoral dissertation was primarily on deciphering the molecular pathways underlying pregnancy using Stat-3 conditional knockout mice model. She was also involved in other research projects like assessing the spermicidal and anti-fertility properties of compounds extracted from plant natural products both in-vitro and in-vivo. She was awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research Fellowship to pursue a part of her doctoral research at CCHMC, Cincinnati, OH, U.S.A.

Her assignments at various organizations include drafting, prosecution, patentability search, infringement/non-infringement/FTO search and patent invalidation searches for utility patents. Her domain expertise ranges from drafting patent applications for chemical and pharmaceutical inventions to biotechnology, medical devices, artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering software patent applications, oil and gas sector etc. She is well versed in the procedures followed by USPTO, WIPO, EPO and IPO.

She is formally trained by World Intellectual Property Organization [WIPO], Geneva in drafting specifications for patent applications. A prolific reader she likes to keep herself updated on topics of current interest in the field of Intellectual Property and Science.
