Prof.(Dr.) Deepmala Baghel

Assistant Professor of Sociology

Dr. Deepmala Baghel is Assistant Professor of Sociology at MNLU Nagpur. She has persuaded her M.Phil. degree in Planning and Development and Ph.D. in Sociology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.

Prior to joining MNLU Nagpur, she was working as Research Associate at Humanities and Social Science department of IIT Bombay. During this tenure she was engaged in various teaching and research projects such as online communication course meant to train faculty from various colleges of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Humanities. The research project ‘Fostering Block Level Development through Technology Transfer and Diffusion’ undertaken at IIT Bombay with the financial support from the Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission, Government of Maharashtra. The project ‘State-level Exports, Competitiveness and Trade Promotion Politics: The Indian Case Study’, funded by the British High Commission, New Delhi.

She has authored articles in national and international journals such as International Journal of Science, Technology and Society, South Asian Popular Culture. She has presented papers in various national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. She has chaired a session at 3rd Global Conference - Beauty: Exploring Critical Issues, Oxford, United Kingdom. She has also done a course on Legal Pluralism offered by the International Commission on Legal Pluralism. She is associated with various professional bodies such as the International Association of Sociology, and Indian Sociological Society. She is also on reviewer panel of international journals like Asian Social Science. Her research interests are in the areas of sociology of development, globalization and social justice,social and cultural capital, sociology of science and technology, women and gender studies, policy analyses, and legal pluralism in modern society.
